From Chapter One's Q & Eh? p. 36

2. Jesus made a bold symbolic statement at the wedding in Cana when he desecrated the holy water jars with party wine, thereby replacing ceremony with celebration. If Jesus came today, what sacred traditions or long-standing beliefs do you think he would need to challenge in order to make his point?

I think Jesus would spend a great deal of time dismantling the Christian subculture. My thought is that while it is helpful for those who already believe, it is also an exclusive subculture that keeps unbelievers, seekers, questioners, and skeptics outside. If anyone needed easy access to the thoughts and words of Jesus it would be these folks. The Christian subculture, in my opinion, is nothing more than a safe haven for Christians that keeps us from being able to truly enter into an authentic conversation with the world.
