ACCESS218

living. learning. preparing.

It is our hope that in 2009 everyone connected to ACCESS218 will have a cause for which they are leveraging their life. Rather than just talking about problems in the world, we want to be part of the solutions. We want to be part of righting that which is wrong, bringing hope to the broken and light to the darkness.

What are your thoughts? Do you know what cause you are going to support? What are your ideas for how you will invest into this cause? What are your dreams for what could be accomplished in 2009? How has God already started to prepare you? What do you think the challenges will be? What are you most excited about?

I have no idea what my cause might be. But I would like to be open to whatever God tells me to involve myself in. I have a tendency to miss what He wants me to do. I would be interested in hearing what other peoples causes are. It is always inspiring to hear what others are doing.

I'm not sure what my cause is going to be yet either Jennifer. What kind of things are you interested in? Any direction you are leaning toward?

I feel sad hearing about all the orphans in the world. Christians just don’t adopt as often as God does. All of God’s children are adopted, except for Jesus. God places the lonely in families. I like that He doesn’t overlook anyone. We are not forgotten. God knows our names. I would like to think that one day I might be in the position to adopt a child. In the meantime, I guess I could practice by trying to “adopt” people. Giving them my attention, time, stuff like that.
I know that an easier cause would be to throw money at an organization doing stuff in the world. But I think it would be more rewarding to interact and know the effect of what I’m doing.

I agree that it is easy to just give money to an organization (though money certainly does help!). Going deeper and getting your hands dirty with the work will make a huge impact. Do you know much about the organizations Compassion or World Vision? They don't specifically work with orphans but with underprivileged children in other countries. The baptist childrens home here in Jax works with foster kids. If you are looking for an organization to partner with, one of those might be good.

That sounds great Jennifer! Time and attention is one of the best things that you can give to people to let them know that they are loved. And once they know you love them you can start sharing that God loves them too. Sounds like you have a great cause!

Goals and vision:
We all follow the same God why can¢t we come together and work together for His will.
Break down the walls between denominations and all of us be one church

1) Attempt to work with other churches despite denominational differences to the common goal of teaching others about Christ.

2) Understand the differences between denominations
-Q&A video
-research

Questions

How do you get into Heaven?

Who is Jesus to you?

When/how should baptism be performed?

Who is Satan?

If someone is a new believer why should they join your church?

What is your church doing to reach those outside the church?

What do you think are the differences between the different denominations of churches?

Why do you think a lot of people don¢t come to church?

What are some of the problems in the world? What do you think you can do personally about it? What is stopping you?

How do you feel about the way that the church appears in popular media? What can be done to change it?

instead of just locals, you might want to also ask church leaders from different denominations as well (they have to know their church doctrine/dogma and can answer your questions will full backgrounds of their church, meaning more reliable and clear answers per denomination):

methodist, baptist, non-denominational, anglican/episcopalian, roman catholic, eastern orthodox christian, lutheran, presbyterian, seventh-day adventists, assemblies of God, etc.

this is a really cool idea! i can't wait to see what comes of it!

Kelsey, you know this already, but my cause is To Write Love on Her Arms. It feels so horrible to know that so much hurt is happening at my school, city and community. Suicides amount for so many of young people's deaths and I truly want those suffering from addiction, depression, cutting, suicides, etc to know that love is here and rescue is possible. I'm trying to make TWLOHA an official club on campus and I've been asked to put on a benefit at the school. I would love help in this endeavour. If any UNF people are reading this, we need members and leadership people as well. Good luck everyone. May our hearts be broken.

Julie you are already doing an amazing job with this! Great things are going to happen at UNF because of what you are doing.
