living. learning. preparing.

I am at my desk litterally in tears. I really dont even have words to explain this right now. Everyone needs to check this site out, and then tell your friends to check this site out. And do something, I feel stupid but we are free Christians in America for Christ's sake, litterally! If anyone is doing something is should be us. I really dont even have anything i can possibly say to convey what im feeling right now.... if I could get on a plane and go there to do any good, I would go tonight. I just don't understand. savedarfur.org go there

That was the first post, and I don't want to delete it because I want to remember how I felt when I first saw what is happening in Darfur. I have moved on now to finding a solution, and I need help. I work at the Cheesecake Factory and after praying at length, God reminded me that CCF donates $25,000 annually to a charity event organized by their employees. There are a few catches, some of which I hope to get irones out today by my manager. In theory, my idea is to organize a walk/run to benefit both Doctors Without Borders, and Savedarfur.org. DWB is a humanitarian organization, and you can learn more about them on their website doctorswithoughborders.org. Whereas savedarfur.org is working on advocacy with the UN, EU, AU, etc. So I want to support both parts of the fight to stop genocide in Darfur.
I am thinking of trying to have the run/walk in May, but im in the very beginnign stages of planning right now, and im not even sure that CCF will support this because its not a community effort, but an international effort. However since President Obama took office, he and Hilary Clinton have been very outspoken about their drive to stop genocide in Sudan. So I am hoping that CCF will want the publicity enough to support anyways, lol. I would like to try and raise awareness at all the CCFs nationally and see if maybe some representatives could organize the same event in their area on the same day/week as Jacksonville. Think of how many people this could affect to be active in their community!
Either way, I think I would like to try and organize this event and generate support even if CCF is unwilling to participate. I am finding myself overwhelmed with so much to do with this, as well as Unified127, and normal life. And I am really looking for someone to help me organize, plan, make calls, see about permits, etc. Theres a lot to do once this really gets going. I am also hoping that between myself and this nonexistant other person, we will hold eachother accountable. Its hard to not meet deadlines, and get results when someone else is depending on you besides yourself!
So if anyone is interested or has any ideas, please throw me a line, lol. Here or facebook Alessandra Card
Thanks!

Why not make this your cause for 2009? Why not try to go to Sudan and help? What's stopping you? I know you were at Community Night on Wednesday but in general we've been talking about dreams and before the break Derrick showed us a short film on Sudan to break our hearts. Truthfully Alessandra if this is where God is calling you, go! :)! Let God worry about the details and just go! Since you started hanging out on Tuesday's we've been talking about Going and Launches and Causes! I'd say if God is moving in your soul about this cause you should join him in it! I love you Alessandra!

PS-How did you stumble onto savedarfur.org? Did you just see something and happen to click it?

Geoff mentioned it acrually, and i asked him to explain because I had heard it mentioned, but didn't really know what was going on. And he told me to go to the site, where I started watching some videos about it. I have too many causes for '09 already, but for sure this is something that is unacceptable to me. So i prayed, and immediately recieved an idea. So i'm going to work on that a little and see hwere that takes me. Thanks Katie!

We (A218) have two documentaries about Darfur that you should watch. They are rough, but I think its good for us to be aware of what is going on. Last fall I did quite a bit of research and sent emails to many different organizations and ministries trying to see if there was a way to actually go help in Darfur. Because of the danger there, it is hard to find anyone who will take volunteers, but there are certainly other ways to invest. God is breaking your heart for the things that break His... and its good.

Praying for direction for you. Let me know if you want to see one of the docs .

I am glad to see that God has put this on your heart. The only and best advice I can give is before you decide to do anything take time and pray about this. Pour your heart out before God, he will listen and answer you.

I totally support you in this! I probably can't be the person who helps with a lot of the leg work, but I will pray that someone else feels the call to do that. I might be able to help you with a few connections though. I know lots of refugees from Sudan, though not specifically from Darfur. They might be able to give you some insights. Also, there is a man from the Congo who is in Jax right now and he does trips to Rwanda and the Congo and takes volunteers over there to help pray with the people because they need so much healing. They also work to set up infrastructure such as schools and clean water. If you are interested I will get you in touch with him!
