There is a quote in the movie V for Vendetta (greatest movie ever) that states
"Artist use lies to tell the truth...". Do you find any truth in this, or think it is completely wrong, in either case why?
I was sincerely debating your quandary, and was going to create a rebuttal to the effect that artists convey their own unique creative craft for various purposes, and in those diverse reasonings multiple conclusions can be had...so one cannot dwindle down this generalized question...it's too broad, too effable and ambiguous. I mean an artist can administer "lies" in the form of fanaticism, in wishing to purpose a singular point, to enlighten an entire people, to showcase various disconnected messages, or even in an meandering abstractive piece great truth of one's own soul can be found.
I was dwelling upon all of this, until I came to notice that you left the quote incomplete...for even in this superb movie of anarchy for the sake of liberty, there were suggestions that absolute democracy is simply an impossible feat, and thereby rendering most modern nations plutocracies.
Nonetheless, the memorable film quote should read ~
"Artists use lies to tell the truth, while politicians use them to cover the truth up"
V was an artist, but more so a revolutionary, so maybe we should discuss this in a political forum and not an artistic one ;v)
Yes, I did leave the quote incomplete, mainly because I agree the full quote is a political question, but I mainly wanted to focus on the art portion for this group. You do make a good point, and I did also read your comment on the Picasso quotes. I created this discussion topic for that to make a discussion and I love the response you gave. Maybe we could take the full quote and move it into the forum and have a long engaging debate on politics in that sense.
