Profile Information

My Current Occupation:
Working
My major:
English w/ an Education minor
Birthdate:
1/25
My Favorite Music:
Anything that enables me to seek after the heart of God.
About Me:
I work as a math and reading tutor, and as a substitute teacher all over Duval. So if you are a local teacher and need a sub...I'm available!
I graduated from UNF with an English degree...
'cause yeah, that's marketable :-P
Though I am your girl if you need mad editing skills... :-)
And you often will find me singing, if the context allows.
I hang out with A218 Forward on Monday nights.
I work Tues, Wed, Fri nights, and Sat mornings...yay for little social life.
I am currently working through the process of moving to Haiti to teach missionary kids. The process is rocking my world on many levels right now.
I am a night owl who is trying to find her inner early bird.
I love logic puzzles, and do Sudoku puzzles everyday. The more challenging the better.
I have way too much creative energy, and not enough focus to use it productively all the time. I find that frustrating.
But when I find a creative or analytical outlet (or something that is both) it is like music with a beautiful harmony.
My Interests / Hobbies
Activities:
A218 Forward, Running, Working on Haiti stuff, Singing in my car, Hanging out with people and doing life with them.
Interests:
Music, classical and otherwise, taking voice lessons, leading worship, drama (I like directing), painting, sculpting, otherwise creating art, scrapbooking, photography, travel, thinking about deep life questions, staring off into space, cat naps, being with good friends. Getting more active by walking, biking, and swimming some. Analyzing and logistics. Proofreading anything, studying math (calculus, anyone?), little projects that never get finished, blogging, etc.......
My Goals / Aspirations / Dreams
I feel called to the Nations...and there is an s on that word. Whatever that means....
And I feel called to be the advocate and ambassador for those who have no voice...
James 1:27 (Amplified Bible) - "External religious worship [religion as it is expressed in outward acts] that is pure and unblemished in the sight of God the Father is this: to visit and help and care for the orphans and widows in their affliction and need..."
The things that make me want to get out of bed:
Anxiety about sub jobs (specifically the fear of not having plans left), Leading worship, Opportunities to spend time in and with the Access community, The chance to help people.
My favorite place I've been:
Haiti, I kinda like it a lot.
My books I'm reading:
My Utmost for His Highest, and Drumbeats (a history of WorldTeam, the organization I will be serving with in Haiti).
A little known fact about me:
I have 5 step-sisters and a half-sister.
But I consider myself an only child because I didn't have the step-sisters until I was grown, and I have only met the half-sister twice.
One thing I hope to accomplish this year:
Find a full-time job for the fall so I can throw money at student loans. It would be nice to have a teaching job, too, so I get more experience before moving to Haiti next year.

Hey Geri! So I keep hearing from you and others/your blog about moving to Haiti, but I was curious what the timeline for that is. Also, I'm so glad the trip down there went so well with the World Team people you got to meet up with! That's awesome!

Hey Geri, so timeline wise when does it look like you will be moving down to Haiti? I was reading your blog and I'm so excited that the trip down there went so well for you in particular. I've heard about it from a lot of different people and knew as a group it went well, but it's awesome to know it went well for you too! :)

hey, thanks I appreciate it. I might have a few questions later, but school is CRAZY right now for the next two weeks with finals and papers so I can't really worry about anything right now, no time. But thanks and maybe we can chat in a couple weeks :)

We even have a wireless now in the library so things are improving here ;) The flu is not getting much better though, I'm up and more or less around again, but others now have disappeared into their beds

Well we do have internet in Amsterdam, so it is not too strange that I could be here. Things are nice and busy here. The weather is a bit harsh on Tom though; some sleet/rain/snow mixture and a lot of flu going around. But a lot of nice people so we are just fine.

Confirmation...

So I had an unsettling shift in thinking this week. As Haiti gets closer to being my "present tense" as it were, the thought came into my mind, "I have absolutely no inkling what will come after Haiti." And I had to rein in my mind from having a freak out.
As I processed that realization, I realized that it is (obviously) okay not to know what will come next, especially since the Haiti time frame is a little open-ended. And hey, I do know some big picture ideas for later, but those don't really… Continue

Reflection question #3: Does guilt keep you from living the life you were created for?

My first thought...
What interesting timing for this question.

YES! At least guilt tries to, but God and I eventually win out over it.

I try to avoid situations which might create guilty feelings, when they are situations I need to be in. But usually, God will bring me to these hard situations anyway.
On the macro side of things, I have been dealing with a lot of non-specific guilt lately [a hint that it was not healthy appropriate guilt]. The feeling of unworthiness that springs out of it mak… Continue

Following the leading of the spirit

So I looked at my gaslight coming on today, and decided not to push my luck, and headed over to get $3.71 gas at Wal-Mart (not my favorite, but hey, I'm broke). So I have to wait in line for gas for a few minutes, and get behind this REALLY old car, where the driver had gone to pay. So I waited and waited...and when I thought I might get impatient, I felt God's peace, and was reminded that I wasn't in a big hurry, so I needed to just wait.
So a REALLY old lady comes out to pump her gas, and was… Continue
