The Decade of Experimentation

The Decade of Experimentation by Mark Batterson Not sure why I'm sharing this. But here goes. Hope it inspires someone who is trying to figure out what they want to be when they grow up. That includes me by the way! In 1952, Albert Schweitzer won the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian efforts in equatorial Africa. But let share his back story. He woke up on a summer morning in 1896 and said, "While outside the birds sang I came to the conclusion that until I was thirty I coul… Continue

Are we a people in exile?

Question #32: Has being too comfortable caused me to not hear the cry of the oppressed? I was thinking about this on Saturday as Joel, Quirky, Jackie and I all washed our cars. No, it wasn't purified water that we were using, but by many standards it was clean water. And there was plenty of it. And we were washing our cars with it. And we never worried that it would run out. I know there are people who will die today because they don't have clean water to drink. But honestly, its hard for me to… Continue

Its keeping me awake at night

We believe that God has called ACCESS218 to serve college students and young adults in North East Florida. To see college students and young adults living today in God's reality, learning in community what it means to be a Christ-follower and preparing to be leaders in the cause of Christ and His Church for the transformation of the world. For this season of my life, it is the mission that God has set before me and before many of you as well. I am thankful that we are connected to 200+ of these… Continue

things aren't quite lining up.

Almost all of the questions over the last week or so have brought me back to another questions... Do I live like I really believe that which I say is true? Unfortunately, if I'm honest about it, the answer is 'no' more times than I would like to admit. I know that my heart has been set free, but I don't always live like I really believe it. I say that I know I am forgiven and believe guilt has no place in the Kingdom, but I still let it keep me from fully living the life I was created for. I b… Continue

Reflex Groups

As Joey, Nelson and I sat in the office not too long ago trying to figure out what to call these groups, reflex was the word that seemed the most fitting. Reflex is defined as: -noting or pertaining to an involuntary response to a stimulus -occurring in reaction; responsive -also called reflex act. movement caused by a reflex response. I hope that over the last six days you've allowed the Spirit to search you as you've asked yourself the Reflection Questions. I hope that He has spoken to you tr… Continue

Reflection Question 3

Sometime last week I got an email as part of a UM Campus Ministry list I'm on. It had a link to sign up for emailed devotionals during Lent. The one that was sent today applied to the A218 Lent Reflection Question for today... so interesting when God does that :) The article is below. If you would like, you can sign up to receive these as well at http://www.goshen.edu/devotions/subscribe The Temptation of Unworthiness Isaiah 6:1-8 "Your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out...… Continue

Change of Perspective

Every few months I start feeling the need/desire to buy a plane ticket and travel somewhere internationally. Yes, I might be crazy (I have been called that more than once). No, I'm not filthy rich (I just would rather not eat or pay for gas to afford a plane ticket... just kidding... sort of :) ). I love almost everything about traveling... airports, plane rides, trying out new food, exploring a new place, meeting new people and making new friends... the list goes on. But there is more to it tha… Continue

Haiti:: Action what is in your hand.

Saturday Night I sat outside Starbucks drinking a Hazelnut Hot Chocolate (you need to try one... its amazing.) and talking with a friend about how we could solve the problems of the world. We don't want to be complacent when we hear about a need. We don't want to be desensitized to the brokenness in people's lives. We don't want to be okay with living as if our lives matter most. And so we think and dream and strategize. We get frustrated because we don't know all the answers and we laugh at som… Continue
