So I looked at my gaslight coming on today, and decided not to push my luck, and headed over to get $3.71 gas at Wal-Mart (not my favorite, but hey, I'm broke). So I have to wait in line for gas for a few minutes, and get behind this REALLY old car, where the driver had gone to pay. So I waited and waited...and when I thought I might get impatient, I felt God's peace, and was reminded that I wasn't in a big hurry, so I needed to just wait.
So a REALLY old lady comes out to pump her gas, and was having trouble, and she had to go back again to the window to sort it out. But I was still being patient, even when she came over to ask me about an aspect of the process.
So she comes back and goes into the car, and STARTS IT. At this point I'm just sitting in my car, talking to my roomie, and I watch what is going down, because the gas pump is still in her TANK!
As soon as her break lights came on, I bolted from the car, and ran up to stop her, and did, not a moment too soon. Good thing she didn't accelerate fast...
I knew that she probably didn't have the money to pay for a new gas hose today, nor wanted the hassle. But if I had become impatient and gone to another pump, she would have probably been out of luck.
So my lesson I learned:
Be patient and alert, all at the same time. Even if you have to wait a looong time. :-)
