Saturday Night I sat outside Starbucks drinking a Hazelnut Hot Chocolate (you need to try one... its amazing.) and talking with a friend about how we could solve the problems of the world. We don't want to be complacent when we hear about a need. We don't want to be desensitized to the brokenness in people's lives. We don't want to be okay with living as if our lives matter most. And so we think and dream and strategize. We get frustrated because we don't know all the answers and we laugh at some of the crazy ideas we come up with. And we believe that solutions are possible because greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.
One of the things we talked about was Haiti. See, CrossRoad Church has a sister-church in Tiburon Haiti that was greatly effected by some of the recent hurricanes. I can't help but wonder what our response should be. What can we do to help the Church in Haiti? To what lengths should we go? What would encourage the people there? What would bring glory to the name of God?
I am reminded of a quote (by Donna Crouch I think): Action what is in your hand. Pray over what is in your heart.
There are things in my heart, that are just not possible to do right now, and so I will pray over those. However, I must action what is in my hand. And the thing that is in my hand right now that could help the Church in Haiti is finances.
1 Peter 4:10: As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Luke 12:48: ... For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required;...
I am not rich by American standards, but I would be lying to say that I have not been given much. I must use the gift that God has given me to minister to another.
Every month in ACCESS218, half of the offering goes to advance the work of the Kingdom outside of the ministries of A18. This month it is going to Haiti. Its about sharing in the cost of the Kingdom.... its about putting to action what is in my hand.
