ACCESS218

living. learning. preparing.

Tonight I watched a movie about the life and ministry of Dietrich Bonhoeffer during world war two. This film depicted the way Bonhoeffer reached out to his fellow man, risking his life to do so. Jesus says in John 15:13 that "There is no greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Like Jesus, Bonhoeffer had to endure suffering for remaining steadfast in following God. Bonhoeffer continually risked his life for the Jewish people. The movie depicts how he would pray across the walls with fellow prisoners, while he was imprisoned. His resistance against the Nazis eventually led to him being hung by a noose in April of 1945 just one month before the end of the war. I find Bonhoeffer's life to be very challenging. Those of you who know me well enough, know that I've faced some physical suffering for about a year now. I find hope in people of Faith like Bonhoeffer, who take what comes to them, but continue to serve the Lord whatever may come their way. I think his life can be a valuable lesson for us all. As Paul writes in Romans 12:21: "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

His peace.
